The StoryIn May of 2004, I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer. The diagnosis was such that I would have 6 chemotherapy treatments. As the news spread to my family and friends, there was overwhelming support in the form of kind words, cards, and gifts. Nancy Otto, being one of my dear friends in Kansas City, was expressing her concern to members of her church group about her friend in Bountiful, Utah. Afterwards, a sweet woman came to her with a coin asking Nancy to give the coin to me. "Please give this coin to your friend in Bountiful, and tell her that it is a coin that has been passed from person to person several times. With this coin, many people send their thoughts, prayers, and well wishes. We want her to know that she has a support system and that the coin represents a connection to one another." I took the coin and other items that were personal to me to every chemotherapy treatment. I was amazed at the power of those thoughts and prayers. The feeling of comfort that came was needed at such a trying time. Within a few months, my neighbor's sister, came from Alaska and was diagnosed with lymphomic cancer. At that time, I felt impressed to pass on the coin to her. I shared with her the story of the coin and how it had helped me through my treatments. She was very touched in hearing the story and had similar feelings with the coin. When Kerry and I had the opportunity to buy FatBoy Sales and Marketing, we felt strongly to continue the connections with the individuals we work with. We decided to use the Morgan Silver Dollars as tokens of our friendship and love in our efforts to make the world a better place.
